Dercum’s disease is a rare disorder characterized by multiple painful lipomas of any part of the body. Additional symptoms are: obesity, weakness, fatigability, and neurological and psychiatric dysfunctions. Usually, it affects postmenopausal women who are obese. Occurrence of the disease is seen in the maternal line. The aetiopathogenesis remains unknown. Autoimmunological, inflammatory and metabolic factors are suggested. Treatment is symptomatic. Intravenous administration of lidocaine and liposuction is reported. We present a case of a woman with characteristic features of Dercum’s disease successfully treated with iv infusions of lidocaine and liposuction.
